FAREWELL SWEET DIAVOLINO

Poor little Freddie Cat became so skinny.
Vet exam + ultra sound.
Lymphoma. Agressive Cancer.
Maybe 3-4mos...but as the Vet says...they can
fool you.
He tried hard to carry on.

But eating almost nothing.
Just wanted milk.
Wobbling now not scooting into
the corridor when I opened the door.
A kiss on that sweet little head

instead of our chase.

With every ounce of strength, hauling
himself up and onto his favorite folded
blanket bed on Bubbe Sarah's old chair
by the door.
Joining Tizzy for afternoon treats,
but not eating any.

My sweet little diavolino Freddie Cat's struggle ended

last Monday, June 12, 2017.
Deeply sad.
Full of love, fun, pranks and life. Always purring.
Missing his dear little face every day.
Heartfelt deepest gratitude to Dr Christine Kirnos, The Cat Hospital of Media and Dr Brad Bates, Hospice Vet with THE LAP OF LOVE Veterinary Hospice services for their great care, devotion and compassion for Cats (and their Humans).... 🐱❤️🐱❤️

Had To Share This

Forget the tea towels, tea cups and saucers.
Fabulously witty British knitting designer
Fiona Goble has come up with my absolutely
favorite souvenir of all for this latest
royal wedding. Knit Your Own
Royal Wedding, Andrews McMeel 2011.

Help William And Kate Tie The Knit If you haven't received an invitation to the royal wedding there's no need to despair - as now you can knit your own. An unusual souvenir book has been published full of patterns detailing how to knit ten 'characters' from Prince William and Kate Middleton's big day. This includes the bride and groom themselves, the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, his wife Camilla and best man Prince Harry. The intricate designs see Prince William in full uniform, including blue Garter sash and Golden Jubilee medal. Meanwhile, Kate's diamond and sapphire engagement ring and a tiny tiara are also faithfully depicted in wool. There is also design for the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams who will marry the couple on April 29 at Westminster Abbey. And you can even knit your own corgi - the monarch's favourite breed of dog The knitting patterns are all contained in the 64 page manual 'Knit Your Own Royal Wedding' by Fiona Goble, which retails for GBP 9.99. The book also contains instructions on how to create customised guests, enabling you to knit yourself into proceedings. And once you've created the cast of characters you can pose them against a backdrop of Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace's famous balcony. According to publisher Ivy Press: "This piece of yarn pageantry is funny, charming and easy enough for even a novice to tackle". 'Knit Your Own Royal Wedding' by Fiona Goble (Ivy Press http://www.ivypress.co.uk RRP GBP 9.99) For more information visit http://www.rexusa.com/stacklink/HJEKGYYJY 754958f

I can't wait to get mine, the only souvenir
so far that I truly covet.

Hoping Ms Goble and everyone else concerned
will forgive me for using these photos before
acquiring permission. (I have yet to discover
contact info.) Just couldn't contain
my enthusiasm and amusement.

Ordering mine now.

Lend Me An Ear, Part II

Asked what are my favorite beads, I have to answer
that I always love the beads I'm with. Lately, that
means glass beads from Czechoslovakia. The colors,
the shapes, the textures, So addictive yet fortunately,
not fattening

Been making some new ear bobs from my small but
delectable personal stash. Czech window beads cut and
polished so you can see through the translucent colors.
Slightly off center mottled gold/bronze bordered
picasso beads. A sparkle of Swarovsky aurora borealis
bicones. A fine dessert...... beads ala mode. Yum!

Available at my ETSY shop, CiaoCarolina

Happy 363, Old Girl

Today is the birthday of the remarkable artist and
pioneering entomologist, Maria Sibylla Merian.

 example of her work

From her youth she studied insects, and recorded
her discoveries in her studienbuch, or journal.

My illustration of Maria observing silkworms

Eventually her interest in insects and the natural
world led her to Surinam to study the inhabitants
of the Amazon rain forest in Surinam.

MSM in old age

On the day she died, Tsar Peter the Great of
Russia purchased her studienbuch and took it
to St. Petersburg. He founded the first Russian
Museum of Natural History around it and Maria's
journal is still there today.
In England, King George III bought Maria's
original watercolors from her book of the
Insects of Surinam. They remain in the Royal
Library at Windsor Castle where I was graciously
permitted to view them several years ago.

There is more to tell, but I'll stop here and save
the rest for a book. ;-)

Stay tuned.
