old Russian folktale that I did for Tomie De Paola's
Whitebird imprint at Putnam.
Tomie told me I could do any tale I wanted as
long as it wasn't Italian ;-)
In the traditional tale the child of ice and snow melts away
in spring then returns with winter.
In my version, love and devotion are magically rewarded
at Christmas, inspired by Russian folk art.
Hi, Cousin Carolyn! Mom send me a link to your blog & what a treat it is...I've ALWAYS been a fan of your whimsical evocative illustrations &, now, jewelry. I'm even more impressed now that you've been gracing Tomie de Paola's wonderful books; I was a volunteer librarian at my son Jim's elementary school (he's 13 now) & learned of his superb reputation. A worthy literary pair for sure. Much love to you & your family from The Big Apple; I'll be in touch again!
ReplyDeleteLovely illustrations. I love the Russian color palette you used.
ReplyDeleteI'm eager to see this book for it's a story I've always loved.
